The Central Database Hub (PADU) passed a significant milestone yesterday, recording over 3 million registrations. Specifically, PADU through its official Facebook page announced that 3.08 million Malaysians and permanent residents (PRs) have updated their info on the database as of 11.59pm on 13 February 2024.

In the post, PADU clarified that 3.08 million people have updated their information from the 30.08 million individuals that are on the existing administration database. This means that only around 10 per cent of the citizens and PRs have registered and updated their info on PADU.

The 30.08 million figure is derived from the administration’s existing data, with one of PADU’s goals being to improve such data with more accurate and up-to-date information from Malaysians.

Touted as the most comprehensive database established by the Malaysian government to date, PADU essentially enables the government to have more accurate data analytics for policy formulation and data-driven decision-making, especially as we move towards a targeted subsidy policy. However, as we've alluded to earlier, the sign-up rate is still low.

For context, the registration target for PADU is 29 million signups by 31 March. This means that 25.92 million citizens and PRs need to sign up and update their information in under 2 months for the target to be achieved.
