Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, today shared rough plans for its two upcoming models, GPT-4.5 and GPT-5. Sam said GPT-4.5 will be available within a few weeks, while GPT-5 will follow in a few months. So, what should you know about them?
For your information, the GPT-4.5 is expected to be the last model on ChatGPT that offers a model without reasoning integration. As many are aware, today, ChatGPT offers two different models, namely the GPT4 model and a new model named “o” focusing on the integration of reasoning in providing answers.
OPENAI ROADMAP UPDATE FOR GPT-4.5 and GPT-5:
— Sam Altman (@sama) February 12, 2025
We want to do a better job of sharing our intended roadmap, and a much better job simplifying our product offerings.
We want AI to “just work” for you; we realize how complicated our model and product offerings have gotten.
We hate…
Starting with GPT-5, ChatGPT and their API offerings will integrate both models into one, including the o3 model. It is said that the o3 model will not be offered separately, and will be available in GPT-5 only. With this move, free GPT-5 users will be offered limited access to automatic reasoning features, but ChatGPT Plus users can run reasoning support at a high level, and ChatGPT Pro users will support it at an even higher level.
