According to OpenAI, millions of people use ChatGPT to discuss their health concerns. We aren't surprised, but we just learned that the company has introduced ChatGPT Health for users to be informed, prepared, and confident when navigating their health. This new feature brings users’ own medical information together with ChatGPT’s AI to provide more meaningful responses tailored to individual health contexts.

Is ChatGPT Health Reliable?

On ChatGPT's blog, ChatGPT Health allows users to securely link medical records and popular wellness apps such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal so that responses can reflect personal health history, recent test results, and daily activity patterns. Users can upload medical records directly or authorise apps to share fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle data.

These connections help ChatGPT explain test results in plain language, assist with appointment preparation, offer diet and exercise suggestions, and help users evaluate health-related decisions grounded in their own data. Health conversations are stored separately inside their own space within ChatGPT, isolating them from regular chats and giving users control over what stays in Health memories.

Privacy and Security

As for information privacy, sensitive health information and files are encrypted, and Health chats are not used to train OpenAI’s foundational models. Users can view or delete connected data and memories at any time through settings.

ChatGPT Health operates with enhanced privacy and security measures, so conversations within Health are compartmentalised from other interactions in ChatGPT, and data from connected apps requires explicit user permissions before being accessed. Users can also strengthen account safety with optional features like multi-factor authentication.

OpenAI partners with trusted networks like b.well for medical record access in the United States, and each app integrated with Health must meet strict privacy and security requirements before being included. Users can disconnect apps or revoke access at any time.

Developed With Medical Expertise

ChatGPT Health was developed in close collaboration with physicians from around the world, with input from more than 260 doctors across 60 countries, to help shape how the feature interprets health questions. This guidance helped OpenAI build internal evaluation tools like HealthBench, which assesses model responses according to clinical relevance, safety, and clarity. The goal is to support users with useful, reliable explanations of health information, while emphasising that ChatGPT Health is not a substitute for professional medical care.

How to Access ChatGPT Health

Users interested in ChatGPT Health can join the waitlist, with early access offered to a limited group of users on ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. As OpenAI continues to refine the experience, it plans to expand access to all users on the web and iOS in the coming weeks. Some features, including medical record integration, are initially available only to U.S. users.

Will this change how people visit clinics or hospitals to avoid consultations from professionals? Time will tell. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
