Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been a big buzzword in 2023. Many companies are finding ways to take advantage of it, while AI companies are looking to improve on existing platforms. But what if we told you OpenAI wants to build the "iPhone of AI"?

According to Financial Times (via The Star), ChatGPT's parent company OpenAI is in advanced talks with Jony Ive and Masayoshi Son. In case you didn't know, the former used to work for Apple as a product designer, while the latter is part of the Japanese telco giant Softbank. Softbank will allegedly provide over USD 1 billion (~RM4.69 billion) in funding for this undertaking.

The report also states that OpenAI boss Sam Altman aims to develop ChatGPT's first consumer device with Jony Ive's company, LoveFrom. But while discussions between involved parties are serious, no deal has been closed (at least not yet). Interestingly, the three parties have also discussed creating a new company for this project. As of the time of writing, there are no official comments from all three parties.

For those who are unclear, the idea here seems to be to build a new AI tool that will integrate seamlessly with a smartphone. Could this device run on a new operating system, or would it piggyback off Android or iOS? All we know is that nothing will happen in the immediate future.

But what do you think? What's this whole "iPhone of AI" all about? Share your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
