Opensignal would usually come up with a report that usually involves all the telcos in Malaysia. But today, its report only involves Digi's 4G network, particularly on its mobile internet performance after merging with Celcom.

In summary, Opensignal's report says that Digi's scores for 4G Download Speed and 4G Video Experience have improved on the 900MHz band. This includes an increase of 6.1Mbps (54%) since the earlier collection period, as well as an overall 4G download speed increase of 9.8Mbps (42.8%) on average, taking them above 30Mbps.

In terms of Digi’s 4G Video Experience, Opensignal notes that the score increased marginally by five points, reaching 46.6 points on a 100-point scale and quite close to the Fair category (48-58). The 4.8-point jump takes Digi’s score comfortably into the Good (58-68) category. This means that Digi users are, on average, able to stream video at 720p or better with satisfactory loading times and little stalling.

Opensignal expects CelcomDigi to make even more use of their combined spectrum assets but it will take a long time. This is because CelcomDigi cannot make use of all its combined spectrum in the long term. Despite that, Opensignal thinks if CelcomDigi can combine the strengths of each other, they can thrive in the competitive Malaysian market.
