Opensignal report - Celcom and Maxis gained new subscribers, while Digi and U Mobile lost the most in 2020

If you felt like changing your telco line over the past few months, you're not alone. With the majority of Malaysians hogging on the server network, we are experiencing slower Internet data speed no thanks to the pandemic. In fact, Opensignal noted that many Malaysians have changed their mobile operator to another in 2020.

According to Opensignal's statistic charts, many Malaysians have jumped ship and joined Celcom and Maxis. Unifi followed behind them, but Digi and U Mobile lost the most subscribers. It's interesting to note that when the MCO was implemented in March 2020, that was around the period when U Mobile experience a sharp dive down whereas Maxis slowly gained momentum. As for Celcom and Digi, their subscribers went opposite directions just before June 2020.

In another chart, Opensignal compared the mobile network experience between current network users and leavers. On average, leavers tend to have a bad mobile experience before switching to another telco provider. On the other hand, leavers also an average of between 69.8% and 145.5% more time without a mobile signal, or less time connected to either a 3G or 4G network.
