The TikTok saga in the United States entered a new twist today as it was revealed that the Trump administration is reportedly working on a plan to save TikTok in the country after its ban. The move, negotiated by the White House, sees software company Oracle and a group of outside investors, including Microsoft, to take control of TikTok’s operation in the United States.

According to NPR, which sourced two people with direct knowledge of the discussions, TikTok's China-based owner ByteDance would retain a minority stake in the company. However, its algorithm, data collection and software updates will be overseen by Oracle.

For context, Oracle is already providing the foundation of TikTok's web infrastructure in the United States. Other potential investors who are engaged in the talks include Microsoft.

In 2020, Trump already gave his blessing to a TikTok takeover attempt involving Oracle and Walmart but the deal didn’t go through. It remains to be seen how this new takeover attempt will play out.
