Outdated MacBooks, AirPort and iPhones lose Apple support starting 30 June 2017

Take note Applers, Apple will be moving the following models to the obsolete group starting 30 June 2017.

Macintosh Vintage in the U.S. and Turkey / Obsolete in AP/CN/EU (except Turkey)/JP/LA and Apple Retail Stores:

  • MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2011)
  • MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011)
  • MacBook Pro (17-inch, Late 2011)

Peripherals

  • AirPort Express 802.11n (1st Gen)

Macintosh Vintage in AP/CN/EU/JP/LA/U.S. and Apple Retail Stores:

  • MacBook Pro (17-inch, mid 2009)

iPhone Obsolete in AP/CN/EU/JP/LA/U.S. and Apple Retail Stores:

  • iPhone 3GS (16GB / 32GB
  • iPhone 3GS (16GB / 32GB – China)

Obsolete devices will not be able to receive repair supports from Apple Retail Stores or Authorized Service Providers. However 3rd party channels are still an option.

Apple typically transitioning devices to the obsolete status after 5-7 years after discontinuing manufactures because of increasing difficulty to find spare parts.
