According to BERNAMA, a total of 1.7 million Malaysians have now registered and are using the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application. That said, what should you know about it?
A way to improve crime prevention efforts
For your information, the Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) is targeting this number to continue to increase to strengthen crime prevention efforts. Bukit Aman JPJKK Director Dato' Sri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the increased use of the application developed by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) was very important because it provided many benefits in terms of monitoring and made the work of all parties easier.
Moreover, he said the role of the application becomes more apparent ahead of festive seasons such as Aidilfitri, when many people return to their villages and leave their homes unoccupied.
"The VSP application makes it easier for the public to channel information directly to the police without having to go to the police station or contact the operations room. So far, 1.7 million people have registered nationwide. This approach helps close the gap and opportunities for criminals, especially housebreaking cases,s which usually increase during the festive season," he said.
Additionally, thanks to the VSP application, users only need to fill in information such as name, address, period of leaving home and telephone number for further action by the police. The information will then be channelled to the District Control Centre (DCC) or Contingent Control Centre (CCC) to enable periodic patrols to be carried out in abandoned residential areas.
Furthermore, he said the system also makes it easier for the police to organise patrol schedules according to zones in an organised manner and focus on areas identified as crime hotspots or blackspots. You can download the VSP app via the Apple App Store, Google Play Store or Huawei AppGallery.
