PADU data will be used in determining targeted RON95 petrol subsidies

Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, Finance Minister II of Malaysia recently confirmed that the Ministry of Finance will use the data from the PADU (Pangkalan Data Utama) database in determining RON95 petrol subsidies.

Previously, the PADU database seemed much like a white elephant due to the massive disclosure of personal data for many Malaysians. However, this announcement does ease the tension of the 30.4 million Malaysians who still entered their data willingly if a bit reluctantly.

For everyone except the T20?

Rumours have indicated that the RON95 petrol subsidies would be available to all Malaysians except the T20 group and the recently categorized T15 group. The B40 and M40 income groups are expected to still enjoy the RON95 petrol subsidies, but nothing has been confirmed just yet.

However, this could also depend on where you’re staying. This is because those with high incomes living in high expenditure or expensive cost of living areas could also be eligible.

Not just RON95?

While the RON95 petrol subsidies have most of the attention, there are a lot of other subsidies which many feel could or should be cut as well. These include educational subsidies for books and extra expenses. Perhaps, even higher learning quotas or scholarships?

According to Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, the PADU data has been distributed to all government agencies. So far, 9 applications for the usage of PADU data have been made by these agencies but no specific agency was mentioned.
