The Central Database Hub (PADU) passed a significant milestone yesterday, recording over 2 million registrations. Specifically, PADU through its official Facebook page announced 2.07 million Malaysians and permanent residents (PRs) have signed up, though the number is still a far cry from its 29 million target.

In the post, PADU said that as of 11.59pm on 29 January, 2.07 million out of 30.08 million individual records in the database have updated their information. The 30.08 million figure is derived from the administration’s existing data, with PADU’s aim being to improve such data with more accurate and up-to-date information from Malaysians.

Touted as the most comprehensive database established by the Malaysian government to date, PADU essentially enables the government to have more accurate data analytics for policy formulation and data-driven decision-making, especially as we move towards a targeted subsidy policy. However, registrations are still low despite it already being rolled out for almost a whole month.

For context, the registration target for PADU is 29 million signups by 31 March. This means that 28.01 million citizens and PRs need to sign up and update their information in just 2 months for the target to be achieved.
