The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has advised the public to be wary of a new scam that’s taking advantage of the 15th General Election (GE15). It involves giving out RM500 aid via a fake Touch ’n Go eWallet link shared through SMS.

As reported by Bernama, under the scam, victims will receive notification of the RM500 assistance given to people who support Barisan Nasional (BN) and victims will be asked to make an identity verification using the link. As it turns out, the link is not an official Touch ’n Go link but instead a phishing site that is masked as an application.

Sentul district police chief, ACP Beh Eng Lai has stressed that Touch ’n Go would not send any message or notice to users. The messages are from scammers who are attempting to dupe victims.

He further elaborated that the link with the RM500 aid message is not from Touch ’n Go. It’s instead a fake link as there was ‘emy.top’ at the end of the touchngoemy.top link clearly showed that it is not an actual link but definitely an online scam run by a syndicate. Beh thus urges the public to not click on any suspicious link shared via SMS.

Earlier, social media was abuzz when an individual claimed to have been a victim of the scam. The individual allegedly lost RM1950 after accessing the fake Touch ’n Go link received through SMS.
