Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that our country would immediately draft a Cyber Security Bill. The decision was made by the National Cyber Security Committee to ensure that all relevant aspects of legislation be finalised.

According to Bernama, Anwar stressed that there will be no compromise on national security, including in the digital domain and cyber eco-system. Towards this end, the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), an agency under the National Security Council (MKN) will assume the main responsibility of mobilising efforts across various government entities.

The Prime Minister elaborated that the proposed Cyber Security Bill will provide NACSA with a clear legal authority to regulate and enforce laws related to cyber security. Furthermore, it will also improve the effectiveness of its functions.

Anwar added that our country must explore the challenges of the digital era that demand preparedness at the highest level in the entire government machinery when dealing with cyber security threats. As such was a priority not only in the country but also includes larger affairs at the global level as cyberspace and digital communications now encompass various aspects of life.
