Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has proposed for Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Perodua to forge cooperation in introducing affordable electric vehicle (EV) charging rates in Malaysia. Furthermore, Ismail also proposed for Telekom Malaysia (TM) to join in and provide data package that will enable users to book EV charging sessions online.

Speaking to the press during the launch of the new Perodua Alza today, the Prime Minister said that the cooperation would help achieve Malaysia’s target of being a carbon-neutral nation by 2050. As reported by Bernama, Ismail asserted that TNB is currently working to increase its energy production by using renewable energy sources and providing adequate EV charging stations.

Hence, Perodua can use this opportunity to enter the EV market by producing high-quality EVs that Malaysian families can afford. Ismail claims that such smart cooperation should be forged as soon as possible to overcome the effects of climate change.

He also stressed that the federal government is more than willing to discuss with the private sector to ensure that all policies introduced are in line with country’s direction. So, what do you guys think of this proposal by the Prime Minister?
