Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants the use of the Federal Government's Electronic Payment System (iPayment) to be expanded to all federal ministries and departments as early as this March. So, what should you know about it?
For your information, He said the delivery of services using the system needed to be expedited so that the people could immediately enjoy the benefits and innovations brought by the system. This is what the PM said:
Therefore, I urge that the use of the iPayment program be accelerated from the end of April to early March. For me, iPayment is a step forward because apart from providing new initiatives, it also brings direct benefits to the people in terms of efficiency and reducing time-consuming bureaucracy.
Anwar said Malaysia needs to move faster if it wants to stay ahead and not fall behind in digital transformation.
According to him, the country's progress in this field is rather flat when compared to several other countries such as Estonia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia. Returning to context, the iPayment system was first developed by the Accountant General's Department (ADG) in early 2022 with Phase 1 involving online portal channels, before being expanded with the addition of counter payment channels and mobile applications through the implementation of Phase 2 starting today.
This system provides government service customers with the option to make payments online using debit cards, credit cards, prepaid cards, internet banking, quick response codes (QR) and e-wallets. We have yet to confirm other details on the news. Hopefully, everything will be resolved soon.
