Pahang Investment, Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman Datuk Mohamad Nizar Najib has revealed that the State Government plans to attract the data centre industry to invest in the state. He added that the industry is seen to have high potential and Pahang shouldn’t miss out on seizing the opportunities in the sector to drive the state’s economy.
Bernama quoted Nizar, who is also former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s son, as saying that while the investments may not be as high in Klang Valley and Johor, the Pahang government is waiting to see how many investment proposals would come from data centre companies. Furthermore, he assured that the Pahang government would ensure that such data centres won’t jeopardise the people’s supply of water and electricity.
Accordingly, the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has identified several locations deemed suitable in Pahang for data centres. These include Kuantan, Gambang and Bentong.
