Paying Gemini users are already complaining about the new usage limits

At this week's Google I/O 2026, the company announced some changes to its subscription AI service. For instance, Google AI Pro subscribers now have access to YouTube Premium Lite as a bonus. The Google AI Ultra plan now also has a more affordable version. However, users have spotted a new problem.

Lowered usage limits

In conjunction with the Google I/O 2026 announcements, Google changed the usage limits of its Google AI subscription service. Even worse, the change is allegedly obvious enough for users to start noticing. According to Piunikaweb, some Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra are claiming that a mere handful of prompts or video generations are now enough to drain their remaining quota. They are then locked out of using the platform for 5 hours.

A Reddit user found that daily limits changed drastically after 17 May 2026. Previously, Google AI Plus users could enjoy 10 times the limit of the free Gemini service. Pro and Ultra users could use much more: 33 times and 166 times more than free users. Those limits are now 2x, 4x, and 20x - significantly lower than before.

By the way, the Google AI Ultra plan now comes in two variants. Ultra 5x offers 5x the usage limit of Google AI Pro (or 20x free Gemini), while the latter offers 20x Google AI Pro's limit. There's also allegedly a new version of the Google AI Pro plan, but no official info about it.

Much lower value

The point is, Google's AI service is no longer a good value. Getting locked out for hours after hitting the limit is also frustrating for many, so some have begun to unsubscribe. And this trend could continue if Google does nothing to address these complaints.
