As announced by the government yesterday regarding the 5G movement, the Penang State Government's plan is also aligned with the timeline. They plan to turn Penang into a "Gigabit City" by 2022 and all industrial areas will be covered with 5G connectivity.

During the World Information Technology Conference 2020, Head of Penang, Mr Cao Guanyou said that Penang has already begun testing the 5G network and he is confident that the state's industrial sectors will be all equipped with 5G technology by 2022. The reason why the industrial sectors are prioritised with the technology is to enhance the overall competitiveness.

On the other hand, Mr Cao mentioned that the state government is working closely with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and local network providers on a blueprint. Somewhere along the lines, Penang plans to go fully cashless by the end of this year by 90% of all 56 markets. He ended his note on the importance of keeping up with the times, as technology is improving rapidly every day and it's possible to be in a state of no progress.

In case you missed it, the government is planning to launch 5G by the end of 2022 or early 2023. We hope that the progress goes smoothly to test out 5G connectivity in our future smartphone reviews. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
