Perodua QV-E Malaysia release - First homegrown EV with Battery-as-a-Service, starting price at RM80000

The national automaker Perodua has officially unveiled the QV-E, marking the company’s first fully electric vehicle and the first EV in Malaysia developed with a predominantly local design and platform. The QV-E launch revealed the starting price, which is RM80000 (without an insurance battery). Here's everything you need to know about it.

 

Performance, Battery and Driving Dynamics

Powering the QV-E is a single electric motor producing 201 hp (≈ 204 PS) and 285 Nm torque, delivering a 0–100 km/h sprint in approximately 7.5 seconds. Its estimated top speed stands at about 165 km/h, making it the fastest model ever produced by Perodua.

Under the hood lies a 52.5 kWh LFP battery pack, giving the QV-E an NEDC-rated range of up to 445 km. Real-world expectations are around 400–410 km per charge. Additionally, charging options support both AC and DC: AC charging (6.6 kW) can fully charge the battery in about eight hours, while a 60 kW DC fast charger can top the battery from 30% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes. The battery features a liquid-cooling system and meets IP68 water and IP69 dust resistance ratings.

 

Design, Interior and Features

Stylistically, the QV-E adopts a sporty coupe-SUV (or “crossover-fastback”) silhouette, a departure from Perodua’s typical hatchback-oriented lineup. The car rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and features LED headlamps and taillights, flush door handles, protective side cladding, and a roof spoiler.

Inside, the cabin receives a digital overhaul: a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster sits alongside a similar-sized central infotainment screen with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additional touches include a flat-bottom steering wheel, a rotary PRND selector for drive modes, and a modern dashboard layout combining digital and physical controls.

Three driving modes — Eco, Normal, and Sport — allow for adaptable driving behaviour depending on the user’s preference, from efficiency to performance.

 

Pricing, Ownership and Battery-as-a-Service

Perodua has set the starting price of the QV-E at RM80000. A key highlight is the adoption of a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model — a first for Perodua and among the earliest of its kind locally. This scheme allows customers to lease the battery instead of purchasing it outright, potentially lowering entry costs and alleviating long-term concerns about battery degradation.

Buyers will also have the flexibility to purchase the car by cash or loan, and separately choose whether to lease or buy the battery. This flexibility is aimed at appealing to a wider range of buyers, from those seeking affordable EV entry to those preferring full ownership.

 

A Homegrown EV with Global Ambitions

Although the QV-E uses a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by CATL, the rest of the design and platform are credited to Perodua’s in-house engineering, making this very much a “100% Malaysian EV” in terms of intellectual property and development.

Perodua’s president and CEO confirmed that Perodua holds the IP rights for the vehicle’s design and chassis.
