The problem with Android apps is that they can sometimes be geo-locked. For instance, some apps may not be available in the Malaysian Google Play Store. When that is the case, users have to turn to third-party to download the apps they want. But these third-party stores are not very secured since one of them was recently hacked.
According to ZDNet, the details of at least 20 million Aptoide users have been compromised by a hacker. The personal info of these users was then leaked to a hacking forum, allowing other hackers to get access to it. Specifically, the data that was leaked include email addresses, passwords, real name, sign-up date, sign-up IP address, device details, and date of birth.

The leaked data is in the form of a PostgreSQL export file
Users who registered to Aptoid between 21 July 2016 and 28 January 2018 have been affected, so if you're one of them make sure to go change your passwords now. If you use the same login credentials for multiple sites, you should change all of them to safeguard your accounts. Better safe than sorry, right?
Data breaches are reminders that our data isn't always 100% safe, more so when it comes to third-party platforms that may not have good security. It's best to always play it safe by changing passwords often or using a password manager. With that said, do you use third-party app stores like these and why?
