Phones with 2GB of RAM or less will not get full access to Android 11

Now and then, you may have noticed some Android 10 that have very little RAM but run the full version of the OS. But Google is taking steps to prevent that in the future. The company will be looking to mandate minimum RAM requirements for devices with Android 11.

According to XDA Developers, Google has announced that any device with 2GB of RAM or less will not be allowed to have full access to the Android 11 OS. Instead, these devices will have to use the lighter version of Android called Android Go. New phones that launch with Android 11 will be following this rule, as will Android 10 devices that are launched from Q4 2020 onwards.

In case you are unaware, Android Go is essentially a cut-down version of the standard Android OS. Most apps will have a separate 'lite' edition that corresponds to Android Go so that devices can run more smoothly. Forcing phone manufacturers to run their low-RAM devices on Android Go makes sense, as such phones won't be able to work well anyway.

Of course, this only applies for entry-level phones and only some of them have less than 2GB of RAM. But if you happen to get one, at least you won't be wondering why it's running so slowly.
