When Sony launched the WH-1000XM3 back in 2018, it felt like the company had more or less perfected to the formula for a wireless headphone. But change and improvement are inevitable and the WH-1000XM4 is expected to launch sometime this year. Earlier today, live photos of a headphone that is allegedly the WH-1000XM4 were posted on Twitter.

XDA-Developer's Mishaal Rahman claimed that a listing for the headphone was found on Brazil's Anatel, which is the country's telecommunications certification agency. What interesting here is that the unit in the photos had a label showing that it was made in Malaysia. However, the weird thing here is that the label has the USA's FCC ID, so we're not sure if this is a hoax or not.

It could turn out to be the real thing, but the source looks a bit too sketchy for us to take it seriously. There's also no visible difference between the new WH-1000XM4 and the WH-1000XM3 that we can see, which means we can't use differences in design to determine if it's real or not. All in all, it's best to take this piece of rumour with a healthy dose of salt.

Sony has yet to announce when the WH-1000XM4, nor provided any details about what's changed in the new iteration. But if the company decides to use the launch timing of the WH-1000XM3, we could see the new model launched around August 2020. If you can't wait, you could also get the WH-1000XM3 for as low as RM899 on some e-commerce sites now.
