Picking up the Tab: What can we expect from the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series?

Since it's July, the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event is now just around the corner (26 July 2023). Many Samsung fans are eager to find out what the new Samsung devices can offer, and it's something we're curious about too. What about the Galaxy Tab S9? Below are some of our thoughts on the upgrades you may see from the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series.

For design, we don't think there will be any drastic changes. However, there could be some tweaks to make the Galaxy Tab S9 series look better. For example, Samsung could design narrower screen bezels, resulting in slightly more compact tablets. Also, they could offer new colour options or adjust the front and rear camera modules' designs.

Expect the new models to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset

New generation, new hardware. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series will most likely feature updated specs, such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. This flagship chipset is already equipped on many 2023 mobile devices, delivering top-tier performance and improved battery endurance. If you're into gaming, this chipset can comfortably handle all the latest high-end mobile games while conserving battery life.

Another component that could see an upgrade is the display. The Galaxy Tab S8 series already offers superb 120Hz displays, with the Plus and Pro getting high-quality AMOLED screens. But none of these are LTPO panels, which means they don't have an adaptive refresh rate. The Galaxy Tab S9 series could be equipped with LTPO 3.0 panels, delivering 1-120Hz dynamic refresh rate support and lower power consumption for longer battery life.

Would Samsung change the camera design or sensors?

Next, we expect (or at least hope) to see some camera upgrades. Last year's Galaxy Tab S8 series came with a dual-camera (13MP+6MP) at the back and a dual-camera (12MP+12MP) at the front. They aren't spectacular, but tablets weren't intended for mobile photography in the first place. Still, a better front camera could be great for video calls or live streaming.

Additionally, the Galaxy Tab S9 series could also get more storage options. The Galaxy Tab S8 series only offers up to 256GB of storage, which might not be enough for people who want to edit photos or videos. With that in mind, Samsung could add 512GB or 1TB storage options for the Galaxy Tab S9 Plus or Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra models.

Of course, we can't really confirm whether any of these expectations will actually come true, so do take our speculations with a grain of salt.
