Pixel 8 series is not out yet, but the Pixel 8a has already appeared on Geekbench

If previous Google Pixel product launches are anything to go by, the company is set to release the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in October. Yet, the ‘a’ version of the phone, the Pixel 8a, is already spotted on Geekbench.

For reference, the affordable Pixel ‘a’ line usually comes out a few months after the flagship models, with the Pixel 7a launching in May this year. Of course, its appearance on Geekbench is actually not that surprising, given Google’s awful track record of keeping the Pixel line a secret.

Spotted by MySmartPrice, the Geekbench listing shows that the Pixel 8a has an internal codename of ‘Akita’ and is powered by what is presumed to be an underclocked Google Tensor G3 SoC paired with 8GB of RAM. The listing also reveals that the device would be running Android 14.

The Pixel 8a scored 1218 on single-core and 3175 on multi-core, which is not that bad for an affordable offering. Well, the Pixel line has always been known for their cameras and software experience anyway, so benchmark scores ain’t that important.

That’s all the information that can be deciphered from the Geekbench listing though, so we just have to wait until further leaks or an official announcement from Google to find out more. Until then, do stay tuned to TechNave for more tech news such as this.
