Play For Dream MR announced as world's first Android-based spatial computer, coming to Malaysia in October 2024

In case you missed it, Play For Dream Technology, a leading spatial entertainment technology company founded in Shanghai, announced its market entry into the Asia-Pacific region with the establishment of its marketing headquarters in Singapore. To mark this milestone, the company also launched the world's first Android-based spatial computer - the Play For Dream MR.

Play For Dream MR is a mixed reality (MR) headset that was specially developed in collaboration with IMAX and DTS. Play For Dream looks to provide the IMAX’s signature picture and sound to those utilizing the device, elevating user experience. This DTS:X Ultra featured device is also set to elevate user experience across various scenarios via multiple customized spatial sound effects powered by DTS.

Equipped with 8K micro-OLED screens and an ultra-light resin Pancake optical solution, Play For Dream MR can deliver 27 million pixels at 3882 PPI, with 45 PPD at the centre. It is also powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform, 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. There are several sensors, including 11 high-performance cameras, 7 types of sensors, and 22 infrared LEDs, providing tracking with a VST latency as low as 14ms while allowing consumers to experience the next level of spatial computing.

By integrating all their best features, the company hopes to make Play For Dream MR to transcend TV, theatre room, computer, gaming consoles, VR and 3D cameras. Additionally, the MR headset can also be used for productivity and work, even integrating office applications. Running on Dream OS, Play For Dream MR is equipped with features and user-friendly SDKs (Software Development Kits) whereby developers can create new spatial applications.

Additionally, Play For Dream MR also has an AI assistant, Xiao Hu. The company said it can handle searches, music composition, translation, and voice control. In the future, there will be some AI enhancements coming which include features enabling the conversion of 2D photographs into 3D models, along with advanced object recognition capabilities.

The Play For Dream MR will be available in Singapore and Malaysia in October 2024, with details of pricing to be released at a later date. This will be followed by launches in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Japan, which are planned for 2025.
