Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation with an interview with the BBC. In the interview, co-CEOs Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino revealed that 2024 will be a colourful year with many successes and challenges.

According to Nishino, the way players experience video games is constantly changing, and PlayStation Portal is one of their biggest innovations. “PlayStation Portal has been a huge success,” he said. Plus, Sony is now introducing a new beta program that enables cloud streaming directly to these mobile devices.

In addition, Hulst shared his pride in the incredible reception of the Astro Bot game. This proves the great potential of this game in creating a unique experience for users, he explained. However, not all plans go smoothly. Sony was forced to close game developer Firewalk Studios after the failure of Concord. Studio Neon Koi also suffered the same fate.

There are certain aspects of Concord that stand out, but it fails to attract enough players. Therefore, we took the decision to stop this game, said Hulst. In any case, with the success of the PlayStation Portal and the warm reception of Astro Bot, Sony shows that they are still a leader in the video game industry. However, challenges such as Concord's failure serve as a reminder that innovation needs to be balanced with market demands.
