Since the end of May, Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed that a handheld gaming console was in the works. Previously known as Project Q, it now has a new name called PlayStation Portal remote play. Here's what you should know about it.

Like before, the controller is the same as the PS5 DualSense wireless controller and includes adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. The LCD screen is still 8 inches and it can run on 1080p@60FPS. The PS Portal doesn't function like a Steam Deck, ROG Ally or the Nintendo Switch, as it relies on the existing PS5 console to be connected remotely over WiFi.

In other words, as long as you have the games installed on your PS5 console, you will be able to play remotely on your couch, room or anywhere in the house. Additionally, it also supports an audio jack but won't be able to play PS VR2 games and games streamed through the PS Plus Premium cloud streaming service.

Sony is planning to launch the PS Portal remote play later this year for 199.99 USD | 219.99 EURO | 199.99 GBP | 29,980 YEN. A direct currency exchange from the USD price tag to Malaysian Ringgit is roughly ~RM928 so that's quite affordable. The company will have more details on when the pre-orders begin in the future.
