Game Freak, the developer of the Pokémon series, surprisingly unveiled its new IP, Beast of Reincarnation, at the Xbox Games Showcase held at 1 AM today. Unlike the past all-age settings, the new game features more swordplay, but maintains Game Freak's usual frame rate performance.
Visually heavy compared to Pokémon
The first trailer of "Beast of Reincarnation" has some oriental martial arts elements, combining futuristic mechas and mutant monsters, which is reminiscent of Koei Tecmo's "Wild Hearts", in which players use mechanisms to hunt giant monsters.
Officials emphasise that the game adopts an action RPG gameplay, focusing on high-skill combat operations. The stage is set in the apocalyptic future more than 2,000 years later (4026 AD), where the world is filled with alienated creatures and mechanical monsters.
Players will take on the role of Emma the Sealer, fighting alongside a wolf-like companion, wielding a samurai sword, and struggling to survive in a world where humanity is facing extinction.
In a post-apocalyptic Japan plagued by corruption and monsters, humanity's last hope may lie with Emma, an outcast cursed as the "Filthy One," and her loyal canine companion, Koo.
They will embark on a perilous journey through an unpredictable, ever-changing world - a dangerous forest can suddenly erupt from the wasteland. As Emma and Ku go deeper into the unknown, their bond grows deeper and mysterious powers awaken.
Coming soon in 2026
This work is speculated to be the "Project Bloom" exposed in 2023. At that time, it was rumoured to be jointly created by Game Freak and Take-Two's subsidiary Private Division, but after the actual announcement, it was only named Game Freak.
The game is expected to be launched on Xbox Series, PS5, and PC (Steam and Windows) in 2026.
