The next-generation Pokémon game known as Pokémon Winds and Waves could reportedly feature a region inspired by Southeast Asia. So, what should you know about it?

The new region could be inspired by the Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, Timor Leste and possibly Malaysia

According to a report by IGN, the regions in the game take inspiration from several countries in the region, including Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Brunei and Timor?Leste. Based on the information shared, the game world will be built around the concept of a tropical archipelago in line with the geography of Southeast Asia, which has thousands of islands and a vast ocean environment.

Moreover, the “Winds” and “Waves” themes also hint that sea exploration and travel between islands may be important elements in the gameplay. This means players have the potential to explore different areas, such as islands, coastal towns, as well as sea and underwater areas, something that has rarely been explored in depth in previous Pokémon series.

Additionally, the game is being developed by Game Freak and is expected to be the 10th generation in the main Pokémon game series. It will also be released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. If Southeast Asian inspiration is used comprehensively, this will be the first time this region has been used as the basis for a region in a Pokémon game.

For players in Malaysia, this is certainly interesting because it is possible that cultural elements, tropical landscapes and local inspiration from this region will appear in the world of the new generation of Pokémon. Currently, Pokémon Winds and Waves is confirmed to be released in 2027.
