The ban on TikTok has been going on for years since the pandemic. If you recall, the Trump administration was the first to act on banning the popular social media platform. Now the tables have turned, with newly-elected US President Donald Trump to halt the ban, sources say.

So why the U-turn? Well, during the campaign trail from a few weeks ago, Trump actually promised to the voters to save TikTok if he won the campaign. And now that he has become the president for the second time, he is expected to stop the ban on TikTok next year, according to people familiar with him.

In case you didn't know, former President Biden passed a law earlier this year that the TikTok ban will go into effect a day before Trump goes back to the office. The deadline is in January so if TikTok can find a new owner that is not from China, the company will lose access to millions of US users.

So what will Trump do? Nobody knows for sure. It's hard to say if he will keep his word or really fight for it. Until then, TikTok's future in the US remains cloudy.
