Some of you may recall the news about the DNS redirection last week and wonder what the long-term ramifications could be. To make a long story short, it means losing a lot of foreign investment. Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim revealed numbers that could give us a better idea.

In a post on X (Twitter), the PM confirmed that the "Digital Investment Office" initiative has attracted investments totalling RM185.3 billion from 2021 to June 2024. Note that this total is specifically for digital investments. The projects include well-known tech companies like NVIDIA and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Also, he confirmed that 25 projects are targeted to be achieved by 2025.

Besides that, PM Anwar Ibrahim emphasised the need to expand on 5G services nationwide. Priority should be given to industrial areas, critical services, and especially for public higher education institutions. Currently, Malaysia's 5G coverage is about 82% of populated areas.

Anyway, this is another reminder tech giants are investing in our country. So, it would be bad news if they pulled out their investment plans as suggested in a report last week. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
