Malaysia’s national carmaker Proton has fully revealed its upcoming electric hatchback, the Proton e.MAS 5unveiled early ahead of the official launch on 30 October 2025. As a reminder, the official price is not revealed yet, but the estimated local pricing is from RM60000 to RM80000.

Design and Colour Options

The eMas 5 skips camouflage and shows off its full body-colour styling, reminiscent of the Chinese-market Geely Xingyuan/EX2 sibling, with Proton-specific badging. Colour palette includes Moonstone White, Graphite Silver, Slate Greywith Premium-exclusive Marble Cream and Quartz Rose.

Design touches such as a star-patterned C-pillar appliqué and “shooting star” interior illumination hint at the car’s “star wish” inspiration. Meanwhile, the eMas 5 features a modern dashboard layout with a 14.6-inch infotainment screen running on Proton’s Atlas OS inside the cabin, offering wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and voice-control in Bahasa Malaysia.

Standard kit on the entry version includes halogen headlamps, 16-inch steel wheels, manual seats and air-conditioning, while the Premium variant steps up to LED exterior lighting, six speakers, 360-degree camera and power tailgate.

Performance Specs

As a refresher, the eMas 5 is a rear-motor, single-motor electric vehicle in two variants:

  • Prime: 79 PS (58 kW) + 130 Nm, 30.12 kWh LFP battery, WLTP-rated range ~225 km, top speed 125 km/h.

Significance for the Malaysian Market

If pricing holds as estimated, the eMas 5 would position itself as one of Malaysia’s most affordable EVs — potentially unlocking EV access for more middle-income consumers. The source speculated that the RM60000 price tag is for the base “Prime” variant, and the “Premium” long-range version could be priced at RM80000.
