During the long weekend, Proton e.MAS Cars' released a social post about the upcoming e.MAS 5 featuring Y.S Khong, who was a Malaysian Rally champion decades ago. Not only was he promoting the EV, but also indirectly revealed the launch date, which is scheduled on 30 October 2025.
Proton e.MAS 5: Launching Soon
Besides the launch date, nothing else was revealed. Although Khong did mention the price range of RM60000 to RM80000, this information is nothing new since Proton teased about it before earlier this month. In case you didn't know, the bookings already open at a nominal fee of RM99.
Recapping the Specifications
The e.MAS 5 will be offered in two variants: the base “Prime” and the higher-spec “Premium”. The Premium version is equipped with a 40.16 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, an 85 kW (114 hp) motor producing 150 Nm of torque, and a WLTP-rated range of around 325 km.
Meanwhile, the Prime variant features a 30.12 kWh battery, a 58 kW (78 hp) motor, and a range of approximately 225 km. Support for DC fast-charging (30–80% in about 21 minutes for the Premium) and 6.6 kW AC charging is included.
Interior and features look strong: a 14.6-inch Full HD infotainment display, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, 70-litre “frunk”, and boot space from 375 L (expandable to 1320 L) are reported. Early-bird buyers (first 5000) will receive rebates and bonus items such as an NFC Touch-n-Go card loaded with RM 100. Delivery is expected to begin as early as November 2025, following the launch.
Proton's Strategy
Proton’s e.MAS 5 pushes EV pricing into more attainable territory, potentially accelerating EV adoption among Malaysian consumers. Leapmotor’s assembly plan signals the shift from import-only EVs to locally manufactured ones — which can mean better pricing, maintenance support, and long-term ecosystem benefits.
What to Watch Next
The coming weeks will reveal the final confirmed pricing and variant lineup for the e.MAS 5 post-launch, along with real-world performance data on range, charging speed, and build quality. Observers will also keep an eye on Leapmotor’s localisation efforts at Gurun and how Malaysian EV incentives continue to evolve in shaping market dynamics.
At the time of this posting, we are just nine days away from the e.MAS 5 launch in Malaysia. Until then, do stay tuned for the official news coverage only at TechNave.com.
