To ease the immigration clearance at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 and KLIA Terminal 2 (T2), the government has begun a trial period of using Quick Response Codes. At the moment, the method was launched at 40 selected lanes in both airports.

According to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the QR code can only be used by Malaysians. By implementing this method, it would surely solve the problem of congestion in KLIA during the holiday seasons and peak hours. Compared to the automatic gate methods, the QR code can be done in five to seven seconds, a drastic speed improvement from 15 to 25 seconds.

That being said, it is still recommended for travellers to carry their passports to fly overseas, but it's not needed at the immigration clearance. Additionally, manual counter facilities and automatic gate systems will continue to be available for travellers.
