Qualcomm recently announced their new Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 and 630 processors for the midrange. Both are fabricated using a 14nm FinFET process so you can expect better energy savings while promising 30% better graphics than the previous GPUs in the Snapdragon 652 and Snapdragon 625. They also support up to 8GB of RAM, the new Vulkan API, integrated 4K video recording at 30fps and playback along with the Spectra 160 camera image signal processor which improves low light photography and support for dual camera, smooth optical zoom, bokeh effects, dual pixel autofocus and video stabilization.
Both also support Qualcomm's Quick Charge 4 technology for up to 5 hours talk time with 5 minutes of charging and 50 percent battery life in just 15 minutes. The new processors will also support machine learning via the Snapdragon Neural Processing Engine SDK so perhaps we also might see smarter and longer lasting midrangers in the future as well. Phones expected to use the 660 include the Samsung Galaxy C series, Nokia 7, Nokia 8, Oppo R11, Vivo X9s Plus, Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 and Xiaomi Mi Max 2.
