Qualcomm and Thales in a joint statement today announced the world’s first GSMA-compliant iSIM that is embedded into a modified version of the former’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Both companies said that the iSIM form factor is highly attractive to manufacturers looking to create compact and cost-efficient smartphones, tablets and wearables.

Moreover, its GSMA security certification ensures that the iSIM has the same level of cyber protection as eSIM modules. Impressively, the iSIM integrates the SIM technology in the processor in a space of just under 1 sq mm.

With iSIM, manufacturers no longer need to separate physical space for SIM services inside their devices, making space for other parts or even potentially making devices smaller. Furthermore, it also means less energy consumption.
