Today, Qualcomm officially announced its latest premium mobile platform - the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Under the model number SM8735, this chipset is built on a 4nm N4P process node by TMSC, which improves performance and power efficiency over its predecessor.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 features 1x Cortex-X4 core clocked at up to 3.2GHz, 3x Cortex-A720 cores at 3.0GHz, 2x Cortex-A720 cores at 2.8GHz, and 2x Cortex-A720 cores at 2.0GHz. Unlike the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which uses Oryon cores, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 still uses an older but still reliable Kryo CPU.

Compared with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, Qualcomm said the new chipset can deliver a 31% performance boost and a 39% power reduction. Then in the graphics section, its Adreno 825 GPU offers a 49% improvement over the predecessor and even supports ray tracing technology. Additionally, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is also accompanied by Snapdragon Elite Gaming, which features Snapdragon Game Super Resolution 2.0 and Adreno Image Motion Engine 2.0 for more realistic gameplay.

AI functionalities are present as expected. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4's Hexagon NPU processor is upgraded and delivers 44% better AI performance. Camera performance support is also upgraded, supporting sensors up to 320MP and 4K60fps HDR video recording, thanks to the triple 18-bit ISP. Then in connectivity, it features a Snapdragon X75 5G modem that can download speeds of up to 4.2Gbps on a sub-6GHz spectrum.

Moreover, other connectivity options include support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. Qualcomm said the Extended Personal Area Network (XPAN) technology is integrated within to allow sound transmission using WiFi with devices like the Xiaomi Buds 5 Pro. Lastly, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 also supports USB 3.1 Gen 2, LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.

We are expecting to see the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 on more devices this year. One of the phones to come out with this new chipset is the iQOO Z10 Turbo, which is set to launch this month. Xiaomi, OPPO and Meizu are also expected to equip this chipset this year.
