As you may know, Qualcomm unveiled two new flagship chipsets at the Snapdragon Summit 2025. Instead of just one successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, there's also a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 now. But wait, that's not enough either because Qualcomm could unveil a third variant in 2026.
Another Elite flagship
According to Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm will launch two flagship chipsets in 2026. The first is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while the other could be called the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. Both chipsets will be manufactured on TSMC's N2P 2nm node and feature a 2+3+3 CPU core setup.
Differences include the GPU, which is expected to be the same but at different clock speeds. The same will likely apply for the CPU cores. Another difference is that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will support the newer LPDDR6 RAM, while the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 sticks with LPDDR5X RAM. For all intents and purposes, the Gen 6 Pro is an upgraded version of the Gen 6.
Possible cost increase
Whether there will be a Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 wasn't mentioned, but it's believed that both of the Qualcomm chipsets mentioned above will cost more than this year's flagships. Of course, nothing is confirmed until next year's Snapdragon Summit. That's roughly another 11 months away, so take this leak with a healthy dose of salt.
Qualcomm's chipset names continue to baffle, but a standard and 'Pro' naming scheme makes more sense than having two flagships with different names. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
