According to Tom's Guide, Qualcomm has confirmed that 6G technology is now in active development, and pre-commercial devices based on this new generation network can be expected as early as 2028. So, what should you know about it?
A different level compared to the 5G connection
For your information, the company explained that 6G is not just a continuation of 5G, but will open up new spaces in the way humans connect, communicate and interact with the digital world.
According to Qualcomm, 6G will combine ultra-fast mobile communications with native AI in the network, enabling smarter, more responsive and integrated connections.
This technology is expected to support real-time experiences such as extended reality (XR), holographic, next-generation metaverse, as well as industrial automation on a larger scale.
In terms of technical capabilities, 6G is expected to offer much higher speeds than 5G, ultra-low latency, as well as the reliability required for critical applications.
What’s next?
Qualcomm is also emphasising the use of new spectrum, including terahertz frequencies, which will open up wider bandwidth capacity.
Although still in the research stage, 6G development is expected to begin with pre-commercial trials around 2028, before widespread rollout by 2030.
Moreover, Qualcomm emphasises that they are committed to being a leader in shaping global 6G standards and ensuring that this technology can be utilised by various industries and consumers around the world.
