Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, its latest mid-range SoC with Cortex-X4 core and generative AI

After being in the rumour mills for a while, Qualcomm today finally released its latest mid-range chipset, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. The first 7-series chip to feature generative AI, read on to find out more about the new mobile processor. 

As shared by GSMArena, the chipset has a single prime Cortex-X4 core. Its CPU is 15 per cent more powerful than its predecessor while the Adreno GPU is 45 per cent better, with a 5 per cent power reduction in power consumption to boot. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is built on the 4nm process technology, and the prime Cortex-X4 core of the CPU is clocked at 2.8 GHz.

Besides that, there are also 4 performance cores (likely A720) at 2.6 GHz and 3 efficiency units (Cortex-A520) at 1.9 GHz. In terms of AI, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 supports a wide range of LLMs (large language model) and LVMs (large vision model) such as Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, Gemini Nano, and Zhipu ChatGLM.

Moreover, the chipset can support displays up to 4K @ 60 Hz and QHD+ @ 120 Hz, with variable refresh rate support for 240 Hz to 1 Hz. Meanwhile, memory support is up to 24 GB LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.
