Qualcomm obtains permit to sell 4G chipsets to Huawei

When it comes to the sales of mobile devices, the number that Huawei sells every year presents a huge opportunity for profit. That's why Qualcomm has been negotiating with the US government for permission to sell mobile chipsets to Huawei and it has been recently approved.

According to Reuters, the US government has given Qualcomm the license to sell chips for mobile phones to Huawei. However, the company will only be allowed to sell 4G chipsets to the Chinese company. This means that chipsets like the upcoming Snapdragon 875, which will definitely come paired with the new Snapdragon X60 5G chip, won't be sold to Huawei. There are already rumours that the Huawei P50 series next year will feature Snapdragon chipsets.

Before this, Huawei has relied on its in-house Kirin chips for most of its devices. But with the trade ban restricting Huawei's access to current and future mobile chipsets, the company has become unable to manufacture its own chips. This is big news for companies like Qualcomm, as Huawei will have to rely on them to manufacture new mobile chipsets.

For now, it looks like things are looking up, but let's see if Huawei can find a new source of 5G chipsets too. Perhaps Samsung's Exynos chipsets could come into the picture? Let us know what you think in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news like this.
