Qualcomm has officially introduced two new mobile chipsets, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, aimed at bringing faster performance, smoother gaming, and improved AI features to more affordable smartphones. The new platforms are expected to power upcoming devices from brands including HONOR, OPPO, realme, and Redmi in the second half of 2026.
Bringing Premium Features Further Into the Midrange
With the new Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 platform, Qualcomm is pushing more flagship-inspired capabilities into the upper midrange segment. The chipset introduces support for faster gaming experiences, smoother interface animations, upgraded AI imaging, and newer connectivity standards, including Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0.

Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 targets the affordable smartphone category, but still brings notable improvements over its predecessor. Qualcomm claims the chipset delivers major GPU gains, smoother gameplay, support up to 90FPS, and improved power efficiency for longer battery life.
One of the key additions across both platforms is Snapdragon Smooth Motion UI, a new feature designed to improve animation fluidity, app responsiveness, and overall navigation smoothness. Qualcomm says the technology aims to make even entry-level and midrange devices feel more premium during daily use.
Strong Relevance for the Malaysian Smartphone Market
For the Malaysian market, these new chipsets are likely to appear in a wide range of competitively priced smartphones from Chinese brands that already have strong local presence, particularly realme, Redmi, HONOR, and OPPO.
This is significant because Malaysia’s smartphone market continues to be heavily driven by midrange and budget-friendly devices, especially within the RM700 to RM1800 price range. With these new Snapdragon platforms, consumers can expect future devices in those segments to offer better gaming performance, improved cameras, smoother multitasking, and more AI-powered features without requiring flagship-level pricing.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 in particular could become a strong contender for gaming-focused midrange phones in Malaysia, while the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 is positioned to improve the overall experience for entry-level 5G smartphones. We will definitely be seeing these new chipsets in the second half of the year in Malaysia. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
