Qualcomm won't be giving Samsung any orders to make Snapdragon 865 chipsets

Many brands rely on Qualcomm's mobile chipsets these days but there are others that are trying to gain more market share. Apple and Huawei have an advantage here, being able to manufacture their own chips, like the A13 Bionic and Kirin 990. But Samsung actively uses Qualcomm chips in many of its devices and needs orders for chips to improve its chip business. Unfortunately, Qualcomm may not want to play ball.

According to Business Korea, Qualcomm may choose to give all its orders for new Snapdragon 865 chipsets to TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company), leaving none for Samsung. You would imagine that TSMC should already be swamped with orders to build chips for Apple, Huawei, Nvidia, and more, but clearly the Taiwanese manufacturer's production capacity is not to be underestimated.

Supposedly, this move is aimed to prevent Samsung from acquiring the knowhow to improve its future Exynos chipsets, thus allowing Qualcomm to maintain its tech advantage. Qualcomm has no qualms when it comes to mid-range Snapdragon 765 and 765 5G chipsets, however, because those won't divulge any of the company's best technologies.
