If you love Fossil and its products, this news might catch you by surprise. Recently, Fossil announced it will stop manufacturing and selling smartwatches. So, what should you know about it?
According to Fossil Group, the Gen 6 Fossil smartwatches released in 2021 will be the last gen of the Fossil smartwatches. Reportedly, the company did this to focus its resources on other goods instead. Interestingly, Fossil was one of the most prolific producers of the Wear OS. Hence, its absence could affect the smartwatch market significantly.
Notably, some Redditors have expected it would happen. Previously, it was reported by Fossil employees that the company was pulling out of the smartwatch business. On top of that, Fossil was a no-show during the recent CES. This is baffling because CES has always been a main fixture for the company. Jeff Boyer, Fossil executive vice president and chief operating officer says:
“As the smartwatch landscape has evolved significantly over the past few years, we have made the strategic decision to exit the smartwatch business,”
“Fossil Group is redirecting resources to support our core strength and the core segments of our business that continue to provide strong growth opportunities for us: designing and distributing exciting traditional watches, jewellery, and leather goods under our own as well as licensed brand names.”
We have yet to confirm other details on this subject, or how it will affect Malaysians. However, if you are a fan of Fossil smartwatches, you might want to get them while stocks last.
