ROG Phone 8 series officially unveiled, coming to Malaysia soon by the end of January 2024

Today, ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) unveiled the all-new ROG Phone 8 series. Compared with all the predecessors, the ROG Phone 8 series has a big redesign to look more premium, and slimmer, lighter body and thinner bezels. Here's everything you need to know.

According to ASUS ROG, the new design-catching design is up to 15% thinner than the previous generation. As expected, the ROG Phone 8 series uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, supported by 8533 Mbps LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. An advanced GameCool 8 thermal design is still present and the phone can dissipate heat further with an all-new AeroActive Cooler X clip-on cooler which is 29% smaller but with 1.2X higher thermal efficiency, reducing the back cover temperature by as much as 26°C.

The ROG Phone 8 Pro series features a brand-new 6.78-inch flexible AMOLED (Samsung E6) panel that supports adaptive refresh rates using LTPO technology. The system can adjust the refresh rate automatically from 1-120 Hz depending on the current task, and users can also choose up to a 165 Hz refresh rate if they like. Plus, the touch sampling rate is 720Hz and the display supports 2500nits peak brightness.

ASUS ROG has also made adjustments to the camera system. The primary camera uses the latest 50 MP Sony image sensor with 2X zoom mode and 6-Axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer 3.0 support. Also for the first time, the series includes a 3X telephoto lens (30x digital zoom max) with OIS and Night Photo mode. Finally, there's also the 13MP rear ultrawide and 32MP front camera.

In addition, the ROG Phone 8 series is also the world's first IP68-compliant gaming smartphone and ASUS integrated some AI-enhanced features too. This includes X Capture and AI Grabber, which the latter can capture text directly from games using Machine-Learning Recognition technology and X Sense which provides tips and assistance when needed. X Capture and X Sense 2.0 now support more new top games thanks to AI Pattern Recognition technology.

Last but not least, the new ROG Phone 8 series includes unique customizable elements, including the Aura RGB Lighting logo (ROG Phone 8) and Anime Vision Mini-LED display (ROG Phone 8 Pro / Pro Edition). The AniMe Vision is a 341-element display that can display preset or user-created animations, and users can also unlock secret animations by touching their phone back-to-back with another ROG Phone 8 Pro / Pro Edition.
