Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli took to the Dewan Rakyat to allay any fears of cybersecurity breaches of the Central Database Hub (PADU). Lauding the resoluteness of the database’s security, he revealed that PADU has withstood over 2 million hacking attempts every week.

According to Bernama, Rafizi says that PADU remains secure despite these hacking attempts, which occurred in various forms. These include Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) and breach attempts on the firewall since PDAU went live on 2 January.

The Economy Minister added that PADU also implements geofencing, meaning that only access within Malaysia can update information on the database. Besides that, Rafizi also revealed that as of 10 March, 4292912 individuals aged 18 and above have updated their information on PADU. If the number were to include those under 18 years old, it would be 5946708 or 19.8 per cent of the total of Malaysia’s population.

Rafizi further announced that PADU will be strengthened with the ability to update data in real time to enable quick and automatic data sharing between departments and agencies. Hence, if there is any data update in any ministry or department, it will automatically be reflected on PADU.
