Rapid Bus and Volvo teamed up for the Volvo BZL-GML Eco Range electric bus trial

Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd and Volvo Buses Malaysia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to trial a new electric city bus, the Volvo BZL-GML Eco Range for the Rapid KL bus service. The trial is expected to start in early July where this will involve an eco-friendly bus operating on various routes in the Klang Valley to assess its suitability on Malaysian roads.

For your information, the Chief Executive Officer of Rapid Bus, Muhammad Yazurin Sallij Muhammad Yasin stated that the trial which will last between six months to a year is in line with the directive of the Ministry of Transport to stop the procurement of diesel buses after the first quarter of 2025. This initiative is part of Rapid Bus' efforts to support the Roadmap Go to the government's New Energy Transition (NETR) and speed up the implementation of electric buses.

In addition, the signing of the MoU was attended by important figures including Volvo Buses (Malaysia) country manager, Marcus Mak, Deputy Head of Mission at the Swedish Embassy, Robert Lejon and other senior executives from Volvo Buses and Gemilang International Limited. This collaboration marks an important step towards sustainable public transport in Malaysia.
