Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd (Rapid Bus) recently shared that it’s projecting savings of up to 30 per cent in maintenance costs and more than 50 per cent in energy costs with the full adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) by 2037. Its CEO, Muhammad Yazurin Sallij said that this was based on nearly 10 years of operating data from 15 electric buses on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service along the Sunway Route.

Bernama quoted Yazurin as saying that while the price of an EV bus is quite high, the savings in maintenance and energy costs make the overall cost over the lifespan of the bus cheaper. He further revealed that the transition from diesel buses to EVs would take place in phases.

The Rapid Bus CEO said that the company is aspiring to have a 100 per cent EV bus fleet by 2037. this is in line with the Government’s commitment to making Malaysia a low-carbon nation and reaching net zero emissions by 2050.
