Rapid KL, as a brand for rail and bus service operators in the Klang Valley, will for the first time operate 24 hours on the night of August 30 in conjunction with the 67th National Day celebration. So, what should you know about it?
President and Chief Executive Officer of Kumpulan Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah said all rail services including light rail transit (LRT), mass transit (MRT) and the monorail as well as bus transit (BRT) on the Sunway route and selected bus routes will operate 24 hours starting at 6 am on 30 August until 11.30 pm on 31 August.
"Rapid KL also provides up to 60 free intermediate buses from Putrajaya Sentral MRT Station to Putrajaya Square from 6 pm, 30 August to 3 pm, 31 August to facilitate city residents who want to celebrate the 2024 National Day Celebration that will take place in Putrajaya.
"This improved service is carried out as an Infrastructure initiative in support of the government's efforts to fuel the celebration of National Day," he said at a press conference today.
In addition, he said a total of nine buses will also be provided from Putrajaya Sentral MRT to interesting locations around Putrajaya such as the Botanic Gardens, Putrajaya Marina, Alamanda and the Putrajaya International Convention Center on 31 August.
"Prasarana is very proud to be able to provide this service for Malaysians and we strive to provide the best service.
"More than 4,000 Rapid KL front-line staff will be on duty in shifts to ensure smooth 24-hour operations and provide a good travel experience in conjunction with Merdeka 2024," he said.
Mohd Azharuddin said the 24-hour service initiative could also provide an opportunity for city residents who want to attend the Independence Day celebrations held in several locations around the capital and the National Day Celebration at Putrajaya Square.
Therefore, he invited the citizens of the city to use the Rapid KL rail and bus services to avoid congestion with more than 10,000 parking spaces available at some selected rail stations.
"Infrastructure in collaboration with the Putrajaya Corporation and the Royal Malaysian Police will ensure that the smoothness of this special bus route is not interrupted and Infrastructure Assistance Police members will be assigned to help the organizers for smooth traffic," he said.
