Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail) today announced a significant milestone in Malaysian public transportation, whereby the ridership of its rail line recorded over 1 million passengers a day on 29 May. This is the highest number of passengers in Rapid Rail’s history.

According to Bernama, the total number of passengers on all Rapid Rail services was 1004591 on 29 May, over 35 per cent more than the 739818 recorded on the same day last year. Specifically, the Kelana Jaya Line recorded ridership of 287102, Ampang/Sri Petaling Line (224184), Monorail Line (61236), Kajang Line (274302) and Putrajaya Line (157767) on 29 May 2024.

Rapid Rail elaborated that the surge was driven by several initiatives such as the process of increasing capacity on the Kelana Jaya Line and Kajang Line, the reopening of train services between Masjid Jamek and Bandaraya stations for the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line on Feb 17 and the opening of several new attractions along the rail route. Several large-scale events held around rail stations and the school holiday also contributed to the increase in ridership.
